View on the 17th International Congress of Mycoplasma
——mycoplasma and chronic disease

July 8th, 2008  the second day of the 17th International Congress of Mycoplasma

Mycoplasma experts and scholars from all over the world had introduced their latest study and  caused great resonance from the participants.
At 8:30 pm, Dr. Gail Cassell, vice president of Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis,United States had a speech titled "Mycoplasma and human chronic diseases: cognition, reality and prospects". Her lecture which lasted 50 minutes attracted all the participants’ concern. Dr. Gail Cassell talked some new concepts in her leture which has aroused great interest from participants and allowed us to rethink the mycoplasma infection in neonatus. It is found that one quarter of premature babies just born has been infected with Mycoplasma (UU and Mycoplasma pneumoniae) in United States. Compared to those newborns who were not infected, these infected newborns suffering from systemic inflammatory response syndrome, higher risk bronchopulmonary dysplasia, higher concentrations of IL-6 serum and higher incidence of placental inflammation. In premature babies, the shorter counterparts pregnancy, the higher probability of positive tested for mycoplasma infection. Consideriing the probability of mycoplasma infection in babies born and the risk leading to systemic inflammatory response syndrome and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, it is necessary to detect mycoplasma for the new-born babies and take appropriate antibiotic therapy when tested positive. However, it does not mean that the two Mycoplasma antibiotic treatment for the potential premature of pregnant women would reduce infant morbidity and mortality rates. More cautious and research are needed when carry out antibiotic treatment for pregnant women and appropriate standards must be developed at the same time. Dr Gail Cassell also pointed out that it is significant to cultivate mycoplasma for the amniotic fluid of pregnant women.
Our president Sun Yifeng discussed to Dr. Gail Cassell on clinical detection of mycoplasma from infants at the meeting. Dr. Gail Cassell gave a high evaluation to our products after hearing our introduction on products.
At the afternoon, scholars and participants gathered before the posted area of papers for face-to-face exchanges. Our president Sun Yifeng and director Liu Yijiang also talked to the authors about their interesting articles and comprehend many new ideas and technology which will play an active role in improving the quality of our products and making direction of future development.
